How I Support Institutions Through Advising & Technical Assistance:

Overview

Advising (also known as technical assistance) is designed for institutions that need expert guidance, strategic clarity, and informed direction without engaging in full-scale consulting or implementation support.

This work focuses on helping you think through complex challenges, interpret what’s happening in your systems, and determine next steps grounded in culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered practice.

Unlike consulting, advising does not involve hands-on execution. Instead, it provides space for:

  • strategic thinking

  • expert interpretation

  • problem-solving

  • and informed decision-making

This is often the right fit when institutions need clarity, perspective, or guidance to move forward with confidence.

What Advising & Technical Assistance Can Support

Advising engagements may include support related to:

  • interpreting survivor response challenges or patterns

  • reviewing policies, procedures, or practices at a high level

  • identifying gaps, risks, or misalignment in current approaches

  • responding to emerging issues, incidents, or institutional questions

  • guidance on culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices

  • preparation for audits, reviews, or internal discussions

  • sense-making around complex dynamics involving culture, harm, and systems

This work is collaborative, strategic, and grounded in real-world experience across higher education, victim services, and trauma-informed systems.

Advising Engagement Options

Project-Based Advising (Short-Term Support)

Project-based advising is ideal for institutions that need targeted support within a defined window of time.

This option typically includes:

  • a clearly scoped advising focus

  • up to 30–45 days of support

  • strategy calls as needed

  • limited follow-up guidance and recommendations

Project-based advising works well when:

  • the need is specific and time-bound

  • leadership needs expert input to make decisions

  • clarity is needed before moving into implementation

Ongoing Advisory Retainer (Extended Support)

For institutions that require continued access to strategic guidance, advisory retainers provide ongoing support beyond the initial project window.

Retainers may include:

  • monthly strategy calls

  • priority response times

  • ongoing email-based technical assistance

  • continued guidance as new questions or challenges arise

Retainer support is best suited for institutions navigating:

  • sustained change efforts

  • evolving institutional dynamics

  • ongoing survivor response or trauma-related work

A minimum commitment applies for advisory retainers.

Important Notes About This Work

  • Advising focuses on strategy, insight, and guidance not implementation

  • Recommendations are provided, but execution remains with the institution

  • This work does not replace legal, clinical, or compliance services

  • All engagements are scoped to ensure alignment and capacity
